Dr. Lara earned his B.S. in biology from Christian Brothers University, then completed medical school at the University of Tennessee Center for the Health Sciences and took his post-graduate training at Baptist Memorial Hospital, all in Memphis, Tenn. He received additional training at LeBonheur Children’s Hospital, then was board certified in emergency medicine in 1989. The following year he became a fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians. Today he holds Life Support certifications in Advanced Trauma, Advanced Cardiac and Advanced Pediatric disciplines. He began practicing emergency and trauma medicine with hospitals in Mississippi and Tennessee. In 1987 he helped establish the Mid-South Emergency Physicians practice in Memphis, Tenn., while he was director of emergency medicine and chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine at St. Joseph Hospital through 1995. He played a similar role from 1990 to 1995 at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis and in 1991-92 at Millington Regional Naval Hospital in Millington, Tenn. During his time with St. Joseph Hospital, he also directed the Tropical Medicine Clinic for the Sisters of St. Francis Missionary Clinic in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. He came to Kalispell in 1995 as Director of Northwest Medical Center, Emergency Room Department and President/Director of Silvertip Emergency Medical Services. In 2003 he was named Chief of Staff for Kalispell Regional Medical Center.Today he practices with The Montana Center for Wellness and Pain Management, a member of the Neuroscience and Spine Institute. Dr. Lara is a private pilot and enjoys scuba diving, carpentry, soccer, skiing, hiking and riding in his free time.
