Dr. Shelby Karl Brantley, MD

Shelby K. Brantley Jr., MD, is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons. He performs all types of plastic and reconstructive procedures, with a specific interest in cosmetic surgery, including breast resizing, body contouring, facial rejuvenation, and fat grafting. His reconstructive interests include breast cancer reconstruction, complex breast surgery, and surgery in massive weight-loss patients. A magna cum laude graduate of the University of Mississippi, Dr. Brantley received his Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine. Following an internship and residency in General Surgery at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, he completed his plastic surgery fellowship in 1994 at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine, Chattanooga. He was selected to participate in a basic and clinical science plastic surgery fellowship, which resulted in multiple award-winning, national scientific presentations and the publication of numerous articles related to silicone immunology and ultraviolet light exposure. He continues to contribute to the medical literature, with recent articles related to liposuction and abdominoplasties published in MD News and Outlook. Dr. Brantley has been awarded memberships into several of the profession’s most well-respected and prestigious medical organizations, including the American Medical Association; American Society of Plastic Surgeons; American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons; American College of Surgeons; American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery; Lipoplasty Society of North America; Mississippi State Medical Association; and Southeastern Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons. Dr. Brantley was cited as one of the “Two Thousand Notable American Men” and was recognized as a life member of the National Registry of “Who’s Who” in 2000. Dr. Brantley has authored more than 50 articles and abstracts for medical journals, has performed over 17,000 procedures, and his vast experience in aesthetic surgery has led numerous plastic surgical residents to seek his tutelage. For the past several years, he has been selected to provide his insight and thoughts to LEAD (Leadership, Experience, and Development in Breast Augmentation) by the Mentor Corporation, the United States’ largest provider of breast implants. Dedication to his work, diligence in his pursuit of perfection, and a bedside manner that exudes compassion have made him the plastic surgeon of choice for thousands of satisfied patients. Dr. Brantley’s hospital affiliations include St. Dominic-Jackson Memorial Hospital, River Oaks, Woman’s, HealthSouth Surgicare of Jackson, and the Plastic Surgery Center of Mississippi. He and his wife, Beth, have four children: Savannah, Alexis, Eliza, and Shelby, III. They are members of Christ United Methodist Church. Dr. Brantley is active in numerous charitable organizations, and his outside interests include real estate development and outdoor activities.
