Brief Intro

Richard E. Grant, MD is an attending orthopedic surgeon with the Department of Orthopedics at Einstein Medical Center Elkins Park. Board certified in orthopedic surgery, Dr. Grant specializes in joint implant surgery, total joint arthroplasty, gender-specific knee replacement and sickle cell disease-related osteonecrosis. A former president of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, Dr. Grant is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American College of Surgeons, National Medical Society and American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Before coming to Einstein Medical Center Elkins Park, Dr. Grant served as the Edgar B. Jackson Chair for Diversity at University Hospitals Case Medical Center and as a professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Case Western Reserve University. As director of the Timothy L. Stephens, Jr., MD, Orthopaedic Fellowship, he oversaw a 10-year grant of nearly $1 million that funded the clinical and basic science mentoring of African-American, Latino and Native American Medical students interested in orthopedic surgery careers. A scientific reviewer for Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, he has written two dozen journal articles and book chapters and made numerous presentations on a wide variety of contemporary topics in orthopedics. He has been honored with the United States Air Force Meritorious Service Award and the J. Robert Gladden Orthopaedic Societys Alvin H. Crawford Mentoring Award. Throughout his career, Dr. Grant has worked as hard to help people reclaim their lives through joint care and replacement as he has to support diversity in healthcare education and the orthopedics field. Dr. Grant earned his medical degree from Howard University School of Medicine and completed his orthopedic residency at the United States Air Force Wilford Hall Medical Center.
