Brief Intro

Dr. May Abdel-Wahab is an Associate Professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Miami/Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, Miller School of Medicine. She is a radiation oncologist specializing in genitourinary cancer, including cancer of the prostate. She is co-leader of the genitourinary site disease group at Sylvester. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Radiology in Radiation Oncology. She graduated from Cairo University Medical School and completed a Radiation Oncology Residency, Masters of Science and Doctorate degrees at the National Cancer Institute, Cairo University, as well as a Residency and Fellowship in Radiation Oncology at the University of Miami and a Fellowship at Crawford Long Hospital of Emory University. She has a special interest in prostate cancer and has been nationally funded to study the role of steroid receptors, such as androgen receptors and hormones such as vitamin D in prostate cancer. She is also an active member of national research cooperative group genitourinary committees. Dr. Abdel-Wahab is a member and is active in national and international medical societies such as ASTRO, ACR, FRS, AAWR, ADROP, AAAAS and serves on several national committees. She has consistently been named as one of 'America's Top Physicians' by the Consumers' Research Council and is a reviewer for several international and national journals. She is also active in community awareness campaigns to promote screening and early detection of cancer, particularly in underserved groups, and serves as chair of a national committee on health care access and disparities. She has presented at national and international meetings where she also served as moderator and as a member of the program committee. Dr. Abdel-Wahab has published extensively and was co-editor of a prostate cancer book published by Saunders-Elsevier. She is also on the editorial board of the Open Prostate Cancer Journal and is an ad hoc reviewer for many journals, both international and national. She serves as a member of the Expert Panel on prostate cancer for the American College of Radiology, developing Appropriateness Criteria. Dr. Abdel-Wahab has also initiated programs in selective-internal radiation therapy (SIRT) using Y-90 microspheres as well as trans-perineal brachytherapy. She also performs Gamma Knife Radiosurgery, Image Guided Radiosurgery using Cyberknife as well as conventional IGRT (Image Guided Radiation Therapy) including the use of 4D CT, Calypso, and cone beam CT.
