Meet Maricely Gonzalez
Dr. Maricely Macion has been involved in eyecare since the age of 16 with her high school’s health professions program. After becoming a licensed dispensing optician at 19 Dr. Macion decided to pursue optometry. She received her Bachelor of Science in Vision Science as well as her doctorate in Optometry from Nova Southeastern University.
She then completed a residency program with Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine. She was hired on at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute’s Refractive Surgery Service and worked for them for almost two years before she went on to serve our nations veterans with the Veterans Affairs (Miami and Portland) for almost 14 years as a staff optometrist, low vision optometrist and her colleagues as the Veterans Affairs Optometry Grand Rounds Coordinator. She was also adjunct faculty with Pacific University College of Optometry and Southern College of Optometry training student externs and residents.
Dr. Macion is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry.
She has done eye missions trips in Central America, South America and Africa. She is fluent in Spanish. She enjoys spending time with her husband and sons, beekeeping and baking.
