Laurence Smolley, MD, is Chairman of the Department of Pulmonary Medicine and Medical Director of the Sleep Disorders Center at Cleveland Clinic Florida, Weston. After completing his Bachelors of Science degree in chemistry at Yale University in 1972, Dr. Smolley received his medical degree from the New York University School of Medicine in New York City in 1976. He completed advanced training with an internal medicine residency at Downstate-Kings County Medical Center, Brooklyn, N.Y., followed by a pulmonary fellowship at Jackson Memorial Hospital/University of Miami, Fla. Prior to his appointment to Cleveland Clinic in 1995, Dr. Smolley was Director of Pulmonary Rehabilitation and of the Sleep Disorders Center of the Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville, Fla. (1986-1994). He also had been Acting Chief, then Chief of the Pulmonary Section at Miami Veterans Administration Hospital (1983-1986), and Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Miami School of Medicine, Fla.(1981-1986). Dr. Smolley is involved in a number of professional societies. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and of the American College of Chest Physicians. He is a member of the American Thoracic Society, the Florida Sleep Medicine Society and the Society of Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Smolley has published books, book chapters, articles and abstracts related to his specialty interests.
