Dr. Mara is Senior Attending Surgeon and Chairman of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center. He was Board Certified in Orthopedic Surgery in 1987 and recertified in 1997.
Dr. Mara specializes in surgery of the hand and in Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy including reconstruction of the athlete's knee.
He is a magna cum laude graduate of Boston College and earned his medical degree from St. Louis University. Orthopedic training was taken at the University of Connecticut where he concentrated on Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy. Following graduation from his Orthopedic Surgery Residency, Dr. Mara went on to do a fellowship in Hand Surgery at Tufts New England Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts. He has been in practice at St. Francis Hospital since 1984.
John Mara is a member of numerous state and local organizations pertaining to Orthopedic Surgery. He is a fellow of the Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons as well as a fellow of the Arthroscopy Association of North America and the American Association for Hand Surgery. These organizations have in common the advancement of knowledge in their respective subspecialties of Orthopedic Surgery and are restricted in their membership to those surgeons who have met rigid selection criteria.
