John E. Mitakides, DDS Dr. John Mitakides is a graduate of Ohio State University and The OSU Dental School, and heads a practice offering full general dentistry, andÂ with special emphasisÂ on neuromuscular dentistry,Â Â reconstruction and cranio-facial pain.Â Dr. Mitakides is one of only approximately 225 dentists in America to earn the distinction as Fellow, The American Academy of Craniofacial Pain.Â Dr. Mitakides has devoted much of his professional career to neuromuscular dentistry, including the diagnosis and treatment of temporomandibular Joint Disorder, often called TMJ or TMD.Â In addition to Dr. Mitakides, members of hisÂ patient care teamÂ have also earned advanced certification from the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain.Â Both Pam Poppe and Cheryl Smith have earned the designation of Certified TMJ Assistants, in addition to their certification as Expanded Functiontion Dental Auxiliaries, the highest level of certification for assistants. Dr. Mitakides is the founder of The TMJ Treatment Center, conveniently located just off I-675 near Dayton, Ohio, which is a state-of-the-art facility incorporating â€œpaperlessâ€ charting (computerized recordkeeping) with digital x-ray and imaging, so patients have precision imaging with less than1/10th the radiation of traditional x-rays.Â This system also allows images to be sent to insurance providers electronically, so patients can have procedures approved instantly, when necessary. Dr. Mitakides is also a leader in environmental-friendly dentistry, with a DRNA water system that removes pollutants from dental wastewater for recycling.
