Dr. Sullivan graduated Magna Cum Laude from The College of the Holy Cross in 1973 and then attended Boston University School of Medicine. He received his M.D., Magna Cum Laude in 1977 and was elected to the national Medical Honor Society, Alpha Omega Alpha. Surgical Residency followed at the Hartford Hospital, Hartford, Ct. where he was Chief Resident from 1981-1982. Dr. Sullivan then completed a Vascular Surgery Fellowship at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. He has been practicing exclusively Vascular Surgery in Hartford, Ct. continuously since 1984.
Dr. Sullivan is Board Certified in both General Surgery and Vascular Surgery. He is also a Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) and is a member of many local, regional and national vascular societies. As an Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, Dr. Sullivan is closely involved with the training of both surgical residents and medical students. He is a founding member of Vascular Associates of Connecticut, LLC. Dr. Sullivan was named by Money Magazine in 2002 as one of the Top Vascular Surgeons in the Northeast.
Accomplished in the management and treatment of all aspects of peripheral vascular disease, Dr. Sullivan has particular interest in aortic aneurysms, carotid artery disease and lower extremity arterial disease. He can offer traditional surgical therapy for these problems as well as less invasive, interventional techniques involving balloons and stents, etc. He is also very proficient with noninvasive vascular diagnostic techniques which are offered in his offices.
