Brief Intro

Benny E. Brandvold: Neurosurgeon Benny E. Brandvold, M.D., is a member of the medical staff and the practice of Northern Rockies Neurosurgical Associates. Dr. Brandvold attended medical school at the University of Washington School of Medicine and completed a surgical internship and neurosurgical residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Before joining Northwest Healthcare, he practiced at the Great Falls Clinic. Dr. Brandvold treats people with neck and back problems, in addition to brain tumors, brain and spine traumatic injuries, carpal tunnel and other neurological conditions. With more than 20 years' experience managing spinal problems, he is especially interested in cervical diskectomies (a surgery to remove one or more disks from the back) and helping those with sports injuries return to play. He believes in a consistent, conservative approach to the management of neurologic problems and involving patients and families in treatment decisions. “I review the problem and treatment options with the patient so they can choose the treatment option best suited to them,” Dr. Brandvold said. “I spend considerable time in face-to-face instruction and counseling.” Dr. Brandvold grew up in Montana and has been married for 25 years to his college sweetheart, Karen. They have a son, Bryar, and a daughter, Bailey. Dr. Brandvold enjoys collecting political campaign memorabilia and pursuing amateur paleontology. He especially enjoys looking for dinosaur fossils in the Montana badlands. In his youth he was an alpine ski racer and Whitefish was his favorite downhill run. He still skis, and is tackling that mountain again.
