Brief Intro

A member of the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Dr. Strum received his medical degree from the University of North Carolina and completed his Internal Medicine residency at University of Florida College of Medicine. After fellowships in Gastroenterology and Pharmacology at Yale University, he served as a major in the United States Air Force as Chief of Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology at Seymour Johnson AFB. Dr. Strum joined the staff of the Scripps Clinic in 1972. He was appointed as an associate member of The Scripps Research Institute, Department of Medicine and Molecular and Experimental Medicine in 1975. Dr. Strum is a continuing member of the Skaggs Scholars Clinical Science Program. Dr. Strum conducts research studies in early detection and treatment of cancer of the gastrointestinal tract and diseases of the pancreas and bile ducts. His current research involves prospective studies in the prevalence and incidence of neoplasia of the rectosigmoid colon after flexible sigmoidoscopy in patients with and without a family history of colorectal cancer, and the roll of mutational changes in colon DNA in promoting colon cancer.
