Sumner L. Fishbein, MD, a board certified ophthalmologist, provides primary care ophthalmology with a special interest in medical management of Glaucoma. Dr. Fishbein received his undergraduate degree from the University of Rhode Island and his medical degree from the University of Vermont. After completing his residency in Ophthalmology at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, he did a fellowship in Glaucoma at Tufts New England Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts. Before joining The Rhode Island Eye Institute, Dr. Fishbein practiced in Augusta, Georgia. During his long, distinguished career in Georgia, he was an Associate Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the Medical College of Georgia, chief of the division of Ophthalmology and vice president of the medical staff of University Hospital in Augusta. He was on the board of trustees of the Medical Association of Georgia and the Richmond County Medical Society serving a term as president of the County Medical Society. Dr. Fishbein resides in Providence with his wife, Joan.
