Dr. Smaranda Galis received her MD degree from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Cluj, Romania where she also completed a residency in Neurology and then practiced neurology in a large academic center. After moving to the United States she continued her education through the Oklahoma University Neurology program. She functioned as an Assistant Professor of Neurology for three years in the same department, enjoyed teaching and was honored with the "best clinic attending" award from the neurology residents. She also served as acting director of the Spinal Cord Injury/Multiple Sclerosis Oklahoma City VAMC program and was part of the first group of candidates to become Certified Multiple Sclerosis specialist by the Consortium of MS Center in 2004. Before coming to Bon Secours, Dr. Galis was active Neurology staff member of the McAlester Regional Health Center; while there she was active in developing stroke protocols, and was a member of the Oklahoma State Stroke Systems Advisory Committee; she enjoyed the appreciation of the medical community and hospital staff who honored her with the "best doctor award" in 2009. She is a member of the American Academy of Neurology and the Southern Clinical Neurological Society.
