I am a native of California and grew up on the streets of central Los Angeles with my mom, brother, father, and eventually two stepfathers. My mom said that if she had to get married 10 times to find the right man she would do so. I think she exaggerated a bit though. UC Santa Cruz was my launching pad into the world of medicine where I received my bachelor's in biology. My son and his wife are expecting their first child, my daughter finished college at Oakes College of UC Santa Cruz and I've celebrated 25 years of marriage to my wife who now works as a gerontologist.
