Dr. Stanley provides comprehensive orthopedic services and has a special interest in arthroscopic surgery and advanced reconstruction of the shoulder and elbow. After three years at Duke University, Dr. Stanley earned his degree in Biomedical Engineering. Following his graduation from the University of Kansas School of Medicine, he completed an orthopedic residency at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans and a shoulder and elbow fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. Dr. Stanley completed a prestigious, one-year shoulder and elbow fellowship at Texas Orthopedic Hospital with Drs. Gary Gartsman, James Bennett, and T. Bradley Edwards. While in Houston he served as assistant team physician for the Houston Rockets as well as the NBA All Star Game. Because of his interest and education in biomedical engineering, Dr. Stanley is inspired by the mechanics and physics involved in orthopedic medicine. He also is active in teaching arthroscopic and shoulder arthroplasty techniques to other orthopedic surgeons. Dr. Stanley has several publications to his credit including research and documentation in Radiographic Comparison of Pegged and Keeled Glenoid Components Using Modern Cementing Techniques (comparing and contrasting the effect of particular shoulder implants, their design and the effect of modern cementing techniques) for which he earned the distinctive Neer Award. Named after its founder and first president of The American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons, Charles S. Neer II, MD, the award recognizes outstanding clinical investigation contributing to the understanding, care or prevention of injuries to the shoulder and elbow. This prestigious award has been presented annually since the first Open Meeting of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons. Though he has extensive training in state-of-the-art orthopedic surgery techniques, he strives to treat each patient as an individual and with the least invasive options when possible. He works with patients of all ages provides on field coverage for area sports teams. Dr. Stanley and his wife have three young children and live in Mooresville. They enjoy being part of such a vibrant, growing community. In his spare time, Dr. Stanley enjoys hunting, barbecuing and spending time with his family. Dr. Stanley is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the North Carolina Medical Society.
