A graduate of the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, Chapel Hill, NC, David C. Hillsgrove, MD, completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the UCLA Department of Orthopedic Surgery in Los Angeles and his fellowship in sports medicine at The Orthopedic Specialty Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. I enjoy orthopedics and orthopedic surgery because it allows me to help people return to the activities they enjoy, Dr. Hillsgrove says. He founded Northshore Orthopedic ten years ago to help provide the highest level of patient satisfaction and orthopedic care in the greater Lake Norman area in a smaller and more personal practice setting. While he provides orthopedic care for patients of all ages, he has a special interest in arthroscopic surgery and partial and complete joint replacement. Dr. Hillsgrove is dedicated to taking care of the whole patient and not just the injury or medical condition and continues to bring innovation to his Northshore Orthopedic and the medical community. Dr. Hillsgrove and his associate, James P. McDonald, MD, now offer the state-of-the-art MAKOplasty(r) procedure for partial knee replacement through Lake Norman Regional Medical Center in Mooresville. Lake Norman Regional is one of only five hospitals with this technology in North Carolina. When performing the MAKOplasty(r) procedure, Dr. Hillsgrove utilizes the RIO(r), developed by MAKO Surgical Corp., which features a tactile robotic arm and a 3-D virtual patient specific visualization system for a new level of precision. An advocate for athletics and sports safety, Dr. Hillsgrove provides medical coverage on the field for football and lacrosse programs at area Lake Norman high schools. He frequently works with area high school trainers and players discussing injury prevention. Board certified in orthopedic surgery, Dr. Hillsgrove is dedicated to improving patient care in both the clinical and community setting. Acting as the current Chairman of Physician Leadership Council at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center, and an orthopedic adviser to the hospital. Dr. Hillsgrove and his wife have lived in Mooresville for eighteen years and are proud parents to two, great teenagers. They are active in their church and community outreach projects through the Lowes YMCA in Mooresville. Dr. HIllsgrove is a past YMCA board member and provides orthopedic care for the volunteer Healthreach Community Clinic in Mooresville. In his spare time, Dr. Hillsgrove enjoys activities with his family. Dr. Hillsgrove is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the North Carolina Medical Society.
