Robert Sutphin, MD is a member of the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Specialty Section at MD Anderson Cancer Center Orlando. He is board certified in general pediatrics and board eligible in pediatric hematology/oncology. Dr. Sutphin completed his fellowship in pediatric hematology and oncology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston and his pediatric residency at Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando. He earned his medical degree from Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine Marshall University in West Virginia and his bachelors at Midwestern State University in Texas. Dr. Sutphins research interests include the development of novel therapeutic agents, cancer immunology and notch signaling pathway activity in myeloid leukemia. He has been published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at annual meetings of the American Society of Hematology and the American Society of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology. In 2010, he received the Samsung's Hope for Children Spirit Award, which was presented in recognition of his dedication to the children fighting cancer. He has received a $50,000 grant from T.J. Martell Foundation to explore new therapeutic pathways in pediatric leukemia. Prior to medical school, Dr. Sutphin served the United States Air Force as a medical laboratory technician/instructor. He was bestowed a Commendation Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster and named Sheppard Air Force Base (Texas) Junior Instructor of the Year. Dr. Sutphins professional affiliations include memberships in the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Society of Hematology, American Society of Pediatric Hematology Oncology and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
