Richard J. de Asla, M.D., is a board certified Orthopaedic Surgeon with subspecialty fellowship training in foot & ankle surgery. His skills and expertise in treating conditions of the foot and ankle include both non-surgical and surgical options. His clinical interests include deformity & bunion corrections, trauma & sports injuries, diabetic foot conditions and arthritic conditions afflicting the foot & ankle. Dr. de Asla had the distinction of performing Massachusetts General Hospital's first total ankle joint replacement in April, 2010. His research interests include kinematics and biomechanics of the foot and ankle. He is extensively published in the field of foot & ankle surgery. For 8 years Dr. de Asla served as the Director of the Foot & Ankle Orthopaedic Division at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He was a member of the Harvard Medical School faculty from September 2004 until joining the Naples Community Hospital staff in 2015. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society. He serves as a reviewer for the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery and the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. His recreational interests include traveling, running, cycling, music, boating and photography. He lives in Naples, Florida with his wife and three children.
