Dr. Richard A. Mannion, born in Indiana, received his B.S. from the University of Notre
Dame in 1979 and his M.D. from Howard University College of Medicine in 1983. He
served as Assistant Resident of Surgery at Loyola University and Hines VA Hospital from
1983 to 1986, and as Senior Resident of Orthopedic Surgery at Loyola University, Hines VA
Hospital and Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children from 1986 to 1988, serving also as
Chief Resident at Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children in 1987 and Chief Resident at
Loyola University in 1988.
His many honors include the Lawrence M. Marshall Biochemistry Award in 1980 for a
distinguished record in medical curriculum, the Academic Achievement Award for
excellence in first and second year of medical curriculum in 1981, and the Indiana
Medical Student Scholarship Award in 1982. He has been a member of the Alpha Omega
Alpha Honor Medical Society since 1982 and served as President of the Gamma Chapter
in 1983. He received the prestigious Dumas Prize for graduating first in class of the
college of medicine and the Medical Alumni Award for the highest scolastic record of
1983.
Dr. Mannion is Certified with the National Board of Examiners and the American Board of
Orthopedic Surgery, and is a Fellow with the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons,
the American College of Surgeons and the North American Spine Society.
He is a member of the American Medical Association, the Illinois State Medical Society,
the Chicago Orthopedic Society, the AMA/AOA Medical Honor Society and the American
Association of Orthopedic Surgeons.
Dr. Mannion joined Northwest Orthopedic Surgery, SC in 1988. He practices General
Orthopedic Surgery with an emphasis on Lumbar Spine Injuries and disc problems. He is
also a member of the faculty at Loyola University as an Assistant Professor of Clinical
Orthopedics.
Dr. Mannion sees patients in his office on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. He
enjoys spending time with his family, boating and playing basketball with friends.
