Dr. Nitza I. Alvarez is the oldest of 10 siblings, something which has shaped the way she approaches every aspect of her working life.
Born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, she completed medical school with honors, becoming a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society – Gamma Chapter. Her membership in such a prestigious professional medical organization was recognized for her continued excellence in scholarship and her demonstration of the highest ideals in the profession of medicine. It’s a passion for her work that she still holds to this day.
After completing her formal studies, she moved to Albany, NY, where she completed her residency in Internal Medicine, and a fellowship in cardiovascular diseases. It was at this point that she chose to move to Florida, where she has been providing leading preventive care for her patients ever since.
She is proud to be Board Certified in Cardiovascular Disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM), in Adult Echocardiography by the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE), and in Nuclear Cardiology by the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology (ASNC). In addition, she is a professional member of the American College of Cardiology (ACC), the American Heart Association | American Stroke Association (AHA-ASA), ASE, and ASNC.
Dr. Alvarez has a long interest in the specialist area of women’s heart disease and shares a special interest in the management of arrhythmias and preventive cardiovascular medicine. As an avid runner, she believes passionately that a preventive approach to medicine needs to be built on a healthy lifestyle.
