The Fred J. and Dorothy E. Wolma Professorship in Vascular Surgery is held by Dr. Michael Silva, a 1984 graduate of UTMB and Professor in the Departments of Surgery and Radiology and Director of the Texas Vascular Center. In his practice and teachings Dr. Silva seeks to bridge the subspecialties of Interventional Radiology, Cardiology and Vascular Surgery. His clinical research interests include carotid stenting and endovascular management of traumatic vascular injuries.The Fred J. and Dorothy E. Wolma Professorship in Vascular Surgery stands in testament to the outstanding surgical career of Dr. Wolma, a 1943 UTMB graduate who held positions of leadership at UTMB as chief of general surgery, chief of staff and co-director of the Emergency Department. Dr. Wolma was honored in 1984 as an Ashbel Smith Distinguished Alumnus.
