Dr. Wheeler graduated from Dartmouth College in 1961 and obtained his medical degree from the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University in New York City in 1966. After his internship he spent two years with the US Public Health Service detailed to the Peace Corps in Peru, South America. He completed a year of fellowship training in pediatric ophthalmology at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia and the National Children's Hospital Center in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Maynard Wheeler specializes in pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus.
Dr. Wheeler is an Emeritus Associate Professor of Surgery (Ophthalmology) and Pediatrics at the University of Connecticut. He was Director of Pediatric Ophthalmology at the Connecticut Children's Medical Center in Hartford for 25 years. Dr. Wheeler is past president of the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, the American Orthoptic Council, and the Joint Commission for Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology. He is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a fellow of both the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Dr. Wheeler resides in Grantham with his wife Sandy. They have two daughters and two grandchildren.
