Medical Director of Extracorporeal Life Support Section of the Division of Critical Care Medicine
After graduating with a BS degree from the University of Miami, Miami, Florida, Dr. Sussmane obtained his M.D. from St. Georges University School of Medicine, Grenada. He completed his pediatric residency training at Miami Children's Hospital, Miami, Florida. Dr. Sussmane fulfilled his Pediatric Critical Care Fellowship training at Pittsburgh Children’s Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and Miami Children's Hospital, as well as a fellowship in Pulmonary Medicine at Hahnemann Medical School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He has also received a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Miami. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Pediatrics with renewed subspecialty certification in Pediatric Critical Care. He is a member of many professional societies, including a Fellow of the American College of Critical Care Medicine, and a Fellow in the American College of Chest Physicians. He is a past president of the Florida Pediatric Critical Care Society and Chief of the Department of Pediatrics at Miami Children's Hospital. He is named in Who’s Who in America and America’s Top Pediatricians. Dr. Sussmane oversees the ECMO and Apheresis program as Medical Director of the Extracorporeal Life Support Section. Dr. Sussmane has published many medical articles and has lectured extensively on topics dealing with pediatric critical care medicine. His present areas of research interest include Extracorporeal Life Support.
