Dr. James J. Zimmerman has been practicing vascular surgery with the group since 1979. His practice involves endovascular and conventional vascular surgery of the carotids, abdominal aortic aneurysms, aneurysms and occlusive disease of the lower extremities. Most vascular abnormalities are now able to be treated using endovascular techniques of aortic and peripheral stenting and aneurysm stenting, angioplasty and endoscopic venous repair or ablation. Dr. Zimmerman has participated in the development of many new surgical devices for clearing arterial blockages and catheter-based techniques for bleeding control and arterial occlusions. His endovascular and conventional procedures exceed 225 annually. His surgical mortality and morbidity statistics for carotid endarterectomy continue to be under 2% annually. Aortic reconstructive procedures have successes of 97%. Newer procedures of carotid artery stenting for stenosis and stroke are now part of his practice.
Dr. Zimmerman received his undergraduate degree from Illinois Benedictine College and his medical training at Loyola University in Chicago. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery with a Certificate of Special Qualification in General Vascular Surgery, and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is a member of the Pan-Pacific Surgical Association, the International Cardiovascular Society, and the International Society for Endovascular Surgery. He is the author of many textbook chapters and papers pertaining to vascular surgery.
