My name is Gregory Pontone, MD, MHS, and I am chief of the University of Florida Aging, Behavioral and Cognitive (ABC) Neurology Division. I earned my medical degree from the University of South Florida in Tampa. After medical school, I completed a medical internship at Johns Hopkins Bayview followed by a residency in psychiatry and a fellowship in geriatric psychiatry and movement disorders research at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.Prior to joining UF Health, I was an associate professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, where I co-founded and directed a movement disorder clinic that provided comprehensive psychiatric care for patients with Parkinsons disease and related neurological disorders. I also co-founded a mental health counseling program that extended care to spouses, families and caregivers of patients with neurological disorders. My clinical interests surround caring for patients with Parkinsons disease who also suffer from cognitive impairment and psychiatric disorders. As a physician, my goal is to provide the most up-to-date, evidence-based treatments for cognitive and psychiatric disorders that occur in patients with Parkinsons disease. In order to improve care for the future, I provide access to clinical trials and research that advances knowledge regarding the diagnosis, treatment and mechanistic causes of cognitive impairment and psychiatric disorders in Parkinsons disease. Lastly, I am dedicated to reducing the stigma associated with psychiatric diagnoses by providing education to combat misunderstanding and fear. In my free time, I enjoy playing basketball and tennis, bicycling and reading.
