Dr. George Kamajian, D.O.
A past Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians, Dr. Kamajian came to Florida after practicing emergency medicine for 30 years in suburban Boston. Husband, father and physician, he is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and the University Hospital of Jacksonville%u2019s emergency medicine residency program. A recipient of Kellogg Foundation and U.S.A.I.D. grants, he has lectured internationally in Brazil and Armenia (formerly of the Soviet Union).
Dr. Kamajian has published numerous medical articles, short works of fiction and, most recently, two books.
For 55 years Dr. Kamajian enjoyed good health and the economic stability afforded by a successful 35 year career in emergency medicine. In 2005 he underwent an unanticipated knee replacement. It was the first time he found himself on the "other side of the stretcher." Although surgery was successful, Dr. Kamajian could no longer practice the full scope and breath of the emergency room and had to retire from that specialty. Unfortunately having lost his job he also lost his health insurance. During recuperation he had the need for some basic blood work. The lab wanted $300 for a basic panel. "I don't have any insurance," he told them. "It's still $300," the national laboratory replied. "But I'm a doctor," he pleaded. "Sorry, sir. It's still $300."
This true story marks the beginning of Dr. Kamajian's new career as he reinvented himself as a primary physician who specializes in the care of people without insurance. Now anyone who presents to his office can have his same $300 blood panel for $30.
