Dr. Engel and wife Jan have two daughters, Savannah and Alexa. He is known for his active civic involvement with a special interest in the Delta Children's Museum of which he acts as the volunteer executive director. He is a communicant of St. James Episcopal Church and has served on the Vestry and as a Sunday School teacher.
