Brief Intro

I chose medical hematology/oncology for a couple of different reasons, but fundamentally because cancer patients really need lots of help. Cancer treatment is a long journey and they need a lot of support. To some extent, a physician is also a coach who helps patients through the process. The most rewarding part of being a physician is helping someone who was very sick and going through a hard time recover and seeing them at the end of the process and cancer free. I prefer meeting patients to doing paperwork. I'm a better listener than a speaker. When we meet, I?ll introduce myself, but I want to hear what's wrong with you and why are you here to see me? It's important for me to understand the patient?s perspective, what?s most important to them, what?s bothering them the most. It?s my job to tie in the patient?s needs and feelings with the clinical information, like labs and imaging, and put all that together so we can find a care plan that?s best for you.
