Brief Intro

Oral Surgeon Carlos M. Alvarez Dr. Alvarez joined the OMSC team in 2005 and currently heads up our Grove City office. He was born in Havana, Cuba and grew up in Miami, Florida and San Juan, Puerto Rico. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez, and his Doctorate of Dental Medicine from the University of Puerto Rico School of Dentistry in San Juan, Puerto Rico. After receiving his dental degree, Dr. Alvarez joined the U.S. Army as a General Dentistry Officer, where he practiced general dentistry for five years prior to his acceptance into the highly competitive U.S. Army Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Training Programs. He conducted his residency at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, benefiting from intense exposure to dental implant systems, corrective jaw surgery, orthognathic procedures, dentoalveolar surgery, cancer and reconstructive surgery, laser supported surgery and interventional combat trauma surgical management. Dr. Alvarez has been deployed to three different combat zones for surgical support during his career in the U.S. Army, with his last deployment being to Iraqi Freedom. As an Army Medical Department Officer he has also deployed for humanitarian medical and surgical support in several South American countries, Asia, and Africa. After completion of 31 years of service, he retired as a full Colonel from the United States Army. He has served as Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Division Chief at several Veterans Administration Hospitals, and he has held Clinical Professorships at Louisiana State University's Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery training program and the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in San Antonio, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery training program. He has served as a consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery to the Otolaryngology Service at Stanford University, Palo Alto, California. Dr. Alvarez is Board Certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American Dental Society of Anesthesiologists, and the American Dental Association. Dr. Alvarez now resides with his wife Suzie in the Columbus, Ohio area. He is an avid outdoorsman with interests including fly-fishing, jogging, rollerblading, competitive shooting, hiking and climbing, computer sciences and photography.
