Welcome to the Orthopaedic Computer Surgery Institute. William T. Long M.D., founder of Ortho CSI is a national leader in the use of computers and robots for hip and knee replacement surgery. The mission of the Orthopaedic Computer Surgery Institute is to improve joint replacement surgery so that one day all patients can enjoy unlimited activities on a joint replacement that will last a lifetime.
Dr. Long and the operating room team at Good Samaritan Hospital performed the first robot assisted partial knee replacement in Los Angeles in October 2008. Perhaps no surgeon has performed more complex and revision hip replacement operations with computer navigation than Dr. Long. The results of this experience convinced Dr. Long that joint replacement is safer and more precise using computer and robot technology in the operating room.
Members of our healthcare team have worked together for over a decade. Our physicians have published research on medical treatment to prevent blood clots, rapid recovery surgery and the use of computers to improve joint replacement surgery. We have performed joint replacement surgery at no cost to patients in the United States and around the world. Our patients receive competent and compassionate care from a team of experts.
Courteous office staff will help each patient navigate smoothly from initial office visit through the return for long term follow-up. The physicians of California Lung Associates are the triple-boarded medical specialists who provide comprehensive medical care before surgery, during the hospital stay and though the safe transition home.
Dr. Julio Raya and Dr. Brian Chan are anesthesiologists who helped to develop the techniques that allow patients to sleep during surgery while breathing oxygen through a mask. Hip and knee replacement surgery is safer without routine use of an edotracheal tube, a respirator or inhaled anesthetic agents. After surgery continuous nerve infusion pumps block pain at the surgical site and this provides superior pain relief without the side effects of injected morphine.
Improved anesthesia, minimally invasive surgery, and better pain management allow most patients to walk on the day of surgery. The rapid recovery program helps to avoid the complications caused by bed rest. Most patients return home after two nights.
We appreciate all of the patients who trust Dr. William T. Long and Ortho CSI to care for their hip and knee replacement needs.
