Dr. Kirby received his medical degree at Indiana University School of Medicine. He completed his pediatric residency at the David Grant U.S. Air Force Medical Center, Travis Air Force Base in California, and his pediatric cardiology fellowship at the University of Oregon Health Science Center.
Dr. Kirby is board certified in pediatrics and pediatric cardiology. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the Society of Cardiac Angiography and Intervention, and the American Academy of Pediatrics and of its sections on Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery and Uniformed Services.
At the time of his retirement from the U.S. Army, Dr. Kirby served as the chief of pediatric cardiology at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and as the director of the Pediatric Cardiology Section at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS). He is a clinical associate professor of pediatrics at Georgetown University, the University of Virginia and USUHS.
Dr. Kirby has published over 35 scientific papers and abstracts. He has performed original research on transcatheter closure of the patent ductus arteriosus, hemodynamic effects during balloon aortic valvuloplasty, and the use of mechanical thrombolysis in infants.
