Dr. Schlechter is a native of Western Pennsylvania and graduated from Johns Hopkins University and The Chicago Medical School. He trained in General Surgery at Tulane University in New Orleans and in Pediatric Surgery at McGill University/The Montreal Children's Hospital. After completing his training he moved to Austin in 1984 with his wife Beth and children Aaron and Anna. His surgical interests include inguinal hernias, neonatal surgery and minimally invasive surgery.
He is Board Certified in General Surgery and Pediatric Surgery. Dr. Schlechter has been President of Children's Hospital of Austin Medical Staff and Seton's Network Medical Staff, as well as Chief of Trauma at Children's Hospital. He is a member of many state and national professional societies. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Pediatric Surgical Association as well as the Texas Medical Association and the Travis County Medical Society.
Dr. Schlechter's office is centrally located close to Dell Children's Medical Center. Office hours are M-F, 8 AM to 5 PM, Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express are accepted, and new patients are welcome.
