Dr. Veena Chandrakar is a board-certified Medical Oncologist and Hematologist with a focus on breast cancer, GI malignancies and hematologic malignancies but also sees the majority of disorders in her specialty. In addition, she focuses on genetic testing for hereditary malignancies; monitors and councils patients that are considered a high risk for breast cancer.
She has been in private practice since 2004 in both private group practices as well as solo practice in the Cypress area and has enjoyed working in both arenas. She has now decided to accept the role of Medical Director of the Houston Methodist Neal Cancer Center, Cypress location.
Dr. Chandrakar earned her medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine, her internship at New York Methodist Hospital, residency from MCP Hahnemann University Hospital and completed her fellowship in Medical Oncology and Hematology at Georgetown University Hospital.
Dr. Chandrakar's professional life is marked by a series of achievements in medicine and leadership. She has excelled in various roles that demonstrate her versatility and commitment to excellence. She has served on several leadership committees such as Chair of Cancer Committee, Chair of Peer Review as well as several other committees. Dr. Chandrakar has been recognized by the Houstonian magazine as one of Top Doctors in 2018 and 2019.
Beyond her professional pursuits, Dr. Chandrakar has multitudes of interests. She loves traveling and has explored numerous countries, immersing herself in different cultures and gaining diverse perspectives. Each journey adds a new layer to her understanding of the world, fueling her love for discovery.
Reading is another one of her cherished hobbies. She believes in the power of books to transport readers to different realms and broaden their horizons. Her eclectic taste in literature ranges from classic novels to non-fiction, each book adding depth to her knowledge and empathy.
An avid foodie, Dr. Chandrakar delights in trying new restaurants. She has a particular fondness for exploring culinary innovations and savoring diverse cuisines.
