Dr. Joye has over 15 years of experience treating chronic pain. He is a native of Charleston and completed medical school, an anesthesiology residency, and pain fellowship all at the Medical University of South Carolina.
After completing his pain fellowship in 1999, he became the first fellowship trained pain physician in the Charleston area serving the private practice community. For 4 years, he served patients at Bon-Secours St. Francis Hospital, where he was the Medical Director of Pain Management. He then moved his practice into an office setting where patients could get the same nerve blocks without the need for expensive hospitalization.
His practice primarily focuses on spine related pain. Common treatments include epidural steroid injections, transforaminal epidural steroid injections, selective nerve root injections, and facet joint injections. Other injections involve sacroiliac joints, knee and hip joints, occipital nerves, stellate ganglions, lumbar sympathetics, and trigger points. He also performs spinal column stimulation and radiofrequency ablation. Whatever treatment you require, it is coordinated with physical therapists, personal trainers, neurologists, orthopedic surgeons, neurosurgeons, physical medicine and rehabilitation specialists, psychiatrists, psychologists and your internist or family medicine doctor.
Dr. Joye is a founding member of the South Carolina Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, and is an active member of the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians. He recently was very active in lobbying Congress to pass NASPER, a bill sponsored by doctors to provide and improve patient access to quality care, and protect patients and physicians from the deleterious effects of controlled substances misuse, abuse and trafficking. He is an Eagle Scout and remains active in the Boy Scouts of America.
He has offices in Mount Pleasant and North Charleston.
