Timothy D. Shafman MD graduated from Brandeis University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology. He received his M. D. cum laude from Harvard Medical School where he attended the Harvard University - Massachusetts Institute of Technology Division of Health Sciences and Technology. Dr. Shafman completed an internship in Internal Medicine at the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, MA. and a residency in Radiation Oncology at the Harvard Joint Center for Radiation Therapy. He was elected Chief Resident in his final year of Radiation Oncology training. Following his training, Dr. Shafman was an attending physician at the Harvard Joint Center for Radiation Therapy for five years. He then spent another five years on the staff of Duke University Medical Center, Department of Radiation Oncology. Dr. Shafman has published more than forty articles on a range of topics including lung cancer, brain tumors, breast cancer and the genetics of radiation sensitivity.A He has also co-authored several book chapters in widely read Radiation Oncology textbooks. Dr. Shafman joined 21st Century Oncology in June 2004 and is the Medical Director of our Rhode Island and Massachusetts regional networks.
