Dr. Vecchione completed his plastic surgery residency at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital, at Harvard University in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1974. He became certified by the American Board of Surgery in 1973 and by the American Board of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in 1975. His memberships include the American Society of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeons, American Society for Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery, American Association of Plastic Surgeons, American College of Surgeons, American Medical Association, California Medical Association, California Society of Plastic Surgeons, San Diego County Medical Society, San Diego International Society of Plastic Surgeons, and the San Diego Surgical Society.
Dr. Vecchione opened his practice in San Diego, California in July, 1974. He is on the medical staff of Scripps/Mercy Hospital, Sharp Memorial Hospital, and San Diego Children's Hospital. He is past chief of staff at Children's Hospital, of San Diego. He is past Chief of Plastic Surgery at Scripps/Mercy Hospital, Sharp Memorial Hospital and Children's Hospital. In addition, Dr. Vecchione is a Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of California, San Diego.
He served as president of the downtown Rotary Club #33, director and surgical coordinator of the Mercy Outreach Surgical Team (MOST) and one of the chief clinical investigators for Artefill and Artecoll Corporation.
