Dr. VanWylen is a graduate of Holland High School and Hope College. He graduated from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. After completing a residency in general surgery at William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, MI, he trained in general thoracic surgery in Bristol and Birmingham England. He is board certified and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. His practice focuses on general thoracic surgery, and the diagnosis and surgical treatment of gastro-esophagael reflux (GERD). He also practices the full spectrum of general surgery. Dr. VanWylen and his wife, Kathy, have five children. They are active in their local church where Steve teaches high school Sunday school. He founded LSA in 1988.
