Since 1979, Dr. Stephen Faust has been Co-Director of the Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Center where he specializes in spine care and total joint replacements. He became board certified in 1978. He performed the first total knee replacement and the first spinal pedicle screw fixation procedures at Anne Arundel Medical Center. He is extensively experienced in the complete spectrum of spinal disorders, and routinely performs complex spinal reconstructive procedures for adult deformity and neurological compromise. Dr. Faust became a fellow of the North American Spine Society in July 1992 and is on the faculty of AO Spine North America. He is the founder and director of The Maryland Back and Neck Center, which provides informational seminars about back and neck problems. He has participated as faculty and director of many spinal seminars and courses both in this country and internationally.
Dr. Faust also has wide experience in total joint replacement, performing both primary and revision total joint replacements. As co-director of The Maryland Knee and Hip Center, he attends information health fairs and speaks at seminars. He was granted membership of the American Association of Hip & Knee Surgeons in 1998.
He served on the Medical Board of Anne Arundel Medical Center for five years, and for three years as its Chief of Orthopaedics. In March 1994, he was granted privileges at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. While in the U.S. Navy, he served as Chief of Orthopaedics at the Beaufort Naval Hospital in South Carolina.
In addition to his membership with the NASS and the AAKHS, he is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, as well as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Faust served as Director of the Spine Initiative at Anne Arundel Medical Center from 2006 to 2007. He presently holds the newly-created position of Chair of Surgery at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
Dr. Faust and his wife, Leslie, live in Annapolis, Maryland and have 3 daughters. Dr. Faust enjoys gardening (especially roses), photography, and boating. He tries to play golf.
