Medical Specialties and Research InterestsDr. Sweet's specialty is Orthopaedic Surgery of the hand and upper extremity. Specifically, Dr. Sweet treats conditions, injuries and diseases affecting hands, wrists, arms, and elbows. Her research interests include looking for new and better ways to develop the practice of Hand Surgery, "I don’t have a specific predisposition to any one topic. I am open to progress." How I Came to Philadelphia Hand and Shoulder Center“I first became interested in Philadelphia Hand to Shoulder Center when I was a fourth-year orthopaedic resident at Mount Sinai Hospital. My mentor, Dr. Steve Green had trained at The Hand Center under Dr. Lawrence Schneider. He suggested I check it out. I went for an elective rotation during my fourth year in residency and had initial plans to stay for one month. I loved it so much that I spent the whole four-month elective rotation here.My experience was so rewarding, I decided to apply for the Hand and Upper Extremity Fellowship Program. It was clear to me that this was the ideal place and I was ecstatic to be selected for their Fellowship.I am a New Yorker at heart so, after my Fellowship training in Philadelphia, I took a job in New York for a year with my future husband. I then learned that Philadelphia Hand to Shoulder Center was looking to hire a new physician, the thought of returning to Philly excited me, and my husband, also a hand surgeon, had been offered a job in the area as well. So, we moved back to Pennsylvania and we've never looked back. Even when I was a resident I thought it was the “go-to place” for hand surgery and I am proud to be a part of it.It has been a thrill and a pleasure to practice here. I love training and teaching future hand surgeons. My practice remains very exciting and interesting. We see an extraordinary variety of patients here, each with a unique story. It’s wonderful to be a physician and have the opportunity to meet and care for people…it truly is the perfect career.”Impacting OthersI have a very strong commitment to the local community and consider it a great honor to care for family and friends, as well as those connected to my colleagues and former patients. My family and I support several local community organizations and I enjoy presenting community education seminars whenever possible. I also think it is important to give back to the medical community through research and teaching. I maintain my involvement academically, including volunteering as part of medical staff committees at Jefferson Health that focuses on exceptional care and quality outcomes.Awards, Honors & Specialty CertificationsBoard Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon (American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery)Subspecialty Certificate in Surgery of the Hand (formerly CAQ Hand)Top Doctor - Philadelphia magazineTop Physician on the Main Line – Main Line Life MagazineHand Surgeon in top 10% in the Philadelphia Area – U.S. News and World ReportTop Physician in Hand Surgery – Suburban Life / Philadelphia Life MagazineCum Laude Graduate – Harvard UniversityHarvard College Scholarship for Academic Distinction
