Dr. Mercer received his medical degree at the University of Miami Medical School and served his residency at University of California San Diego (UCSD). Specializing in Family Practice since 1983, Dr. Mercer has affiliations with Scripps Memorial Hospital, Encinitas and Scripps Green Hospital. He is past-chair of Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas, Department of Family Practice, and a member of the medical executive committee. He maintains his board certification in the American Board of Family Practice, and is a member of the American Academy of Family Practice. He is actively serving as physician to La Costa Canyon High School, performs valuable pre-sport participation medical exams, and attends all varsity football games as team physician. He has published in both the Journal Of The American Medical Association (JAMA), and The Western Journal Of Medicine. He has done volunteer work at indigent clinics in the North County. His areas of expertise include treatment of skin disorders, sports injuries and pediatrics. He maintains a special interest in imaging of the body as a screening tool. Dr. Mercer also places importance on patients taking an active role in their own health.
