r. Robert Provenzano is the medical director of the transplant program and Section Chief of Nephrology at St. John Hospital and Medical Center. Dr. Provenzano is also program director of the Nephrology Fellowship and vice-chair of the Department of Nephrology. He is a graduate of Wayne State University in Detroit and completed his internship and residency at St. John Hospital and Medical Center. His fellowship in nephrology was completed at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. Dr. Provenzano is a diplomate (board certified) in internal medicine and nephrology. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and an associate professor of clinical medicine at Wayne State University School of Medicine. He remains active in nephrology and transplant societies and was recently elected president of the Great Lakes Transplant Society. He is a board member of the Renal Physician Association and president of its Michigan chapter. The National Kidney Foundation of Michigan has elected him president of its Scientific Advisory Board. He is an active member of the American Society of Nephrology and the American Society of Transplantation. Dr. Provenzano's special interests include diabetes, hypertension, glomerular diseases, kidney and pancreas transplantation, anemia management in chronic kidney disease, application of membraneous technology of plasmapheresis, and low-dose immunosuppression in kidney transplantation.
Dr. Provenzano was recognized as one of the area's most respected kidney specialists in Hour Detroit magazine's "Top Docs" for 2008.
