Dr. Robert Schauer is originally a product of the Midwest. He was born in Chicago, raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and graduated from Edina High School in Minneapolis. He has served the Eugene medical community since 1986.
Dr. Schauer is Board Certified in General Surgery and a member of the American College of Surgeons, American Society of Breast Surgeons, MITSIG (Minimally Invasive Thoracic Surgical Interest Group) and the Christian Medical and Dental Society. He was a member of the Board of Directors for PacificSource Insurance Company and the Chairman from 2000 through 2002. He was the longstanding chairman of the Sacred Heart Tumor Board and past Medical Director of the Cancer Care Center. He also chaired the Sentinel Lymph Node Task Force and monitored the introduction of this important technology to the community.
His special interests and expertise have been in the areas of surgical oncology with emphasis on thoracic and breast cancers. Dr. Schauer has lectured on and performed over 150 thorascopic pulmonary lobectomies. In addition, he has performed the entire spectrum of video assisted thorascopic surgical procedures including bullectomy, sympathectomy, lung reduction surgery and intrathoracic tumor resection and biopsy.
Dr. Schauer has helped introduce numerous new and innovative methods and technology to our surgical community. These have included radioguided surgery for parathyroid and lymph node dissection, the harmonic scalpel for laparoscopy and bloodless surgery and the multidisciplinary approach to cancer management.
He serves as a panel member for the Cedar Clinic Breast Center. He has been a Clinical Instructor, Department of Surgery, University of Minnesota and is currently a Clinical Instructor, Department of Surgery, Oregon Health Sciences University.
He has and will remain dedicated to the pursuit of the best surgical care for the patients of the Northwest Surgical Specialists Group.
