Before coming to the Bon Secours Center for Pain Management, Dr. Mendez was in private practice at The Center for Pain Management in Portsmouth, Va. Previously, he served as assistant head of the anesthesiology department at Portsmouth Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Va. Dr. Mendez has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Florida International University in Miami, Fla. and holds a Doctor of Osteopathy degree from Southeastern College of Osteopathic Medicine in North Miami Beach, Fla. He completed an internship in psychiatry at Portsmouth Naval Hospital, where he also completed a residency in anesthesiology. Dr. Mendez completed Subspecialty Tract studies in obstetrical anesthesia at Bowman Gray School of Medicine (Currently Wake Forest University School of Medicine) in Winston-Salem, NC, as well as the Portsmouth Naval Hospital. Additionally, he holds a fellowship in pain management from the Portsmouth Naval Hospital and a fellowship in pediatric pain management from Boston Children's Hospital in Boston, Mass. Dr. Mendez is board-certified in pain medicine and anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology. He is also certified by the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners.
