Prior to his association with Bon Secours Center for Pain Management, Dr. Hansen was in private practice at The Center for Pain Management in Portsmouth, Va. Earlier in his career, he was associate clinical professor of neurology at Virginia Commonwealth University, Medical School of Virginia in Richmond, Va. He has also held clinical appointments at Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center, serving as medical director for the In-Patient Headache Unit and the In-Patient Pain Management Unit. Dr. Hansen has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah. He earned his medical degree from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. and completed an internship in internal medicine at Bethesda Naval Hospital in Bethesda, Md. , Dr. Hansen completed a residency in neurology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., where he also earned a fellowship in clinical neurophysiology. Additionally, he holds a fellowship in neurointensive care medicine from Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Md. Dr. Hansen is board-certified in neurology, clinical neurophysiology and pain medicine. He is a member of the American Headache Society, the International Headache Society, the American Academy of Neurology, the Virginia Neurologic Society and the American Pain Society.
