Dr. Mataverde choose neurology and sleep medicine because he has always been fascinated with the brain—how it not only gifts our intelligence, but also influences who we are as individuals. He says that sleep itself is largely controlled by our brain and the field of sleep medicine offers many effective treatments that, as a care provider, are gratifying to see positively impact other's lives tangibly. This is why he comes to work each day: to positively affect the health and quality of life of others. Dr. Mataverde reveals that his wife has undoubtedly been the biggest influence in his life. “I have had the pleasure of knowing her for many years, including my most formative, and she has helped shape me into who I am,” he says. “She, and now our children, motivate me to do and be my best every day.” In his free time, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, as well as exercising.With all my patients, I endeavor get to know them as a whole because, aside for biological, so many other factors can influence sleep and ultimately our health. I consider it an honor and a privilege to not only care for my patients, but also to be an important part of their lives.
