Dr. Phillips received his medical degree from the University of Rochester. He completed a residency in internal medicine at UCSD, where he served as chief resident, and a cardiology fellowship jointly at UCSD and Scripps Mercy. His research interests include behavior of coronary stents in complex lesion subsets and toxic muscle reactions to statin and atypical antipsychotic therapies. Dr. Phillips has served in leadership positions such as director of interventional cardiology at Scripps Mercy Hospital. Dr. Phillips is a professor of medicine at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) School of Medicine. Dr. Phillips is a past recipient of the Ralph P. George Teacher of the Year Award from the housestaff at Scripps Mercy, and he is a Skaggs Scholar at the Scripps Research Institute. The physicians office encourages new patient inquiries.
