Brief Intro

Dr. Berg was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming and lived there until his family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, where he completed high school. Following high school graduation and after one year at the U.S. Naval Academy, he returned to the University of Utah where he completed his Bachelors degree, and subsequently received his PhD. After graduate school he spent 3 years at Rice University as a postdoctoral fellow in Biochemistry. Dr. Berg left Rice to attend medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, and then completed internship and residency in Internal Medicine, and fellowship in Gastroenterology at Wilford Hall U.S. Air Force Medical Center in San Antonio. After completion of his training he served at Andrews Air Force Base, in Washington DC as Chief of Gastroenterology. Upon completion of his military obligation he worked for the government for two years in the Middle East while stationed at the American Embassy in Cairo Egypt. Following his return from Egypt, he practiced for two years in Connecticut before returning to Texas, where he practiced in Harlingen and Brownsville for the following eighteen years. Two and a half years ago Dr. Berg joined the faculty of the department of Gastroenterology at the Medical School in San Antonio in order to help establish a program of endoscopic ultrasonography. Having completed this goal he now returns to Harlingen to resume practice and rejoin his home and family on a full time basis. Dr. Berg is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. Extracurricular activities that interest him are his home and family, sailing, fishing, woodworking, martial arts, and working with his draft horses.
