An accomplished author, Dr. Burgdorf has co-authored chapters in surgical textbooks and written
multiple articles in scientific journals, as well as popular media publications. He has been featured
on television and radio programs and has given numerous lectures in the field of plastic surgery. His
extensive knowledge and training allow him to feel comfortable and confident treating patients from
across the country as well as from around the world.
PRACTICE PHILOSPHY
Dr. Burgdorf believes in treating the whole patient, not just the disease. He understands that
surgical procedures and medical language can sometimes be confusing and intimidating. He believes
in educating the patient and explaining details about a procedure in a way in which a patient can
understand. He is also aware that undergoing surgery is a big step in one's life. It is a lot to ask to trust
someone to change your appearance, restore function, or correct a deformity. Dr. Burgdorf feels
humbled when a patient places trust in him to surgically help correct their problem. He never wants a
patient to feel rushed into the decision of surgery, and wants them to fully understand their choices. He
feels that the decision to have surgery must be a team effort. Dr. Burgdorf views surgery as entering into
a partnership with the patient.
Dr. Burgdorf prides himself on being available to his patients, no matter the time or place. His
understanding and caring nature earned him the Patients Choice Award by The American Registry,
an honor given to physicians who have received near perfect scores as voted by their patients. His calm
voice and easy explanations helped him earn the Compassionate Doctor Award and are certain to
relieve any fears you may have about undergoing surgery. His gentle bedside manner and attention to
detail has left many patients feeling comfortable, relaxed, assured and confident they chose him as their
plastic surgeon. He hopes you will too.
PERSONAL
A former linebacker for the Notre Dame football team, Dr. Burgdorf is actively involved in maintaining
his health with daily workouts. He is an avid college football fan and enjoys watching games with his
three sons. He enjoys fine wines, good food and the cosmopolitan nature of the Nashville area. He
is a board member for A Vintage Affair charity organization (www.avintageaffair.org) and is actively
involved in his church community.
Dr. Burgdorf is proud of his accomplishment in becoming a successful board-certified plastic surgeon.
But his favorite accomplishments center on his marriage to his wife Casey and the births of their four children. Being a husband for over 10 years and a father to his children is the pinnacle of what he has achieved in his life. His family is the cornerstone of who Dr. Burgdorf is as a person. His children constantly
challenge him in ways he never dreamed possible, while his wife helps keep him grounded and humble.
We hope this helps you get to know Dr. Michael R. Burgdorf. We look forward to the opportunity to get
to know you better, too.
