Dr. Michael Oechsel is a Board Certified and Board Re-Certified practicing Orthopedic Surgeon in Marin County, California. He practices General Orthopedic Surgery with a special interest in Sports Medicine. Dr. Oechsel graduated from the University of Southern California, Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa. He went on to study at Cambridge University in Cambridge, England. Dr. Oechsel earned his Medical Degree from the Georgetown University School of Medicine. He completed a Surgical Internship and Orthopedic Surgery Residency training at the University of Southern California, where he earned the Outstanding Senior Resident Recognition Award. With a special interest in Sports Medicine, he spent time in multiple sports medicine treatment clinics, working with amateur and professional athletes. Dr. Oechsel continues to pursue these interests while practicing at Mt. Tam Orthopedics. He believes in the non-operative treatment of musculoskeletal injuries, and believes many patients can achieve optimal results with this approach. At the same time, he utilizes up-to-date surgical techniques when surgery is necessary. He believes in keeping his patients well-informed about their diagnoses, and welcomes each patients participation in their own care. As a husband and father, Dr. Oechsel has always been involved with many of his familys interests and activities. As an athlete himself he understands the demands of remaining competitive. He continues to play tournament golf at a level that puts him in the top 1% of all golfers.
