Born and raised in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, D.C., Dr. Matthew Gerber graduated from The College of William and Mary in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, magna cum laude. Dr. Gerber earned his medical degree from The University of Maryland-Baltimore, graduating magna cum laude as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha national medical honor society. Dr. Gerber completed both his general surgery internship and his residency in Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery at The University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA. Dr. Gerber's residency included thorough training in both pediatric and adult otolaryngology-head and neck surgery. He is Board Certified by the American Academy of Otolaryngology. Dr. Gerber's practice encompasses all aspects of head and neck medicine and surgery in both children and adults. He particularly enjoys taking care of pediatric patients, as well as patients with ear disease, nasal and sinus disease, and thyroid disease. Dr. Gerber, his wife Kathryn, and their two young children live in Raleigh. They enjoy a variety of lifelong outside interests, including athletics, sailing, and fishing. He has enjoyed coaching youth basketball, soccer, and baseball through the Salvation Army Athletic programs. Their family particularly enjoys ACC basketball and the North Carolina coast.
